My little workspace for hand making my bridal garters.

Well today ive done some reorganising of my little work station i have set up to make all of your lovely bridal garters. Its not that 'lovely and pretty', but it has everything i need. I hope to get some more pretty colourful storage trollies to have all of my fabrics and ribbons and beads in... maybe in a few weeks time, then i can get ride of all of those boxes underneath my work table.

I have everything i need to first create one of my unique sexy wedding day garters in arms reach. I have my computer and printer to answer emails, print orders and list new items on my websites http://www.nataliebriggs.etsy.com/ and www.madeit.com.au/nataliebriggs
Behind that i have a container of cut fabrics, my sexing boc with all my thread and needles and then a box of all my beads and broochs. Underneather my table are boxes of bridal magazines for design research, fabric dyes, fabric flowers, stock and more pre cut fabric.

On my 'packaging table' i have all of my packaging made up, look at all of the pretty colours!!!!

This is lots of my packaging, plus business cards already, stickers envelopes, tissue paper... the list goes on for packaging garters so they are packed safe and decorative, great for a unique gift for an engaged frined.

To the right is a pile of my big pieces of expensive fabrics and french lace i use that are not cut.

Here are some orders ive completed tonight, already for the post tomorrow :) I love how my packaging allows me to offer my customers cheap postage rates, $4.90 to the US from Australia is pretty good!!!

Well thats my little work space for my fastly growing successful garter business. Im so proud how far its come in a little than 4 months. In the next 6 months i hope to be selling at more venues, including local bridal stores in Western Australia, so stay tuned. For now its back to the drawing board to brainstorm some new sexy elegant bridal garters :)

History of the Wedding Garter

HISTORY OF THE WEDDING GARTER

To have a garter or not? Is one of the most commonly talked about subject from brides in many wedding forums. Some say its a tacky old tradition, some love this unique item of clothing they will probably only wear for their wedding day and save as an heirloom for their future daughters wedding. SO!! why have a garter??
What is the history of th ewedding garter? It all dates back to the old days (like most wedding traditions) to when a wedding was not finalised by just the exchange of vows, but a nearly married coupld had to 'comsumate' in front of their wedding guests (the witnesses) to 'seal the deal' lets just say, hehe.

This would have been a pretty 'organic, natural' moment to witness and as such a part of the brides clothing was seen as good luck, so all the single guests would tear at the brides clothes/dress to get a bit of good luck to bring a loved one to their own lives. Seem pretty spiritual doesnt it, something more symbolic back then. As most wedding traditions are symbolic of the new commitment and life the new married couple are entering together. So having a garter around the leg is a toned down version of this (you dont want your guests tearing apart your $3000 dress!!!!!!!!! agh!!!) The garter is pretty sexy on the brides thigh to this symbolises the thigh and the husband taking the garter off symbolises him taking away your single life and memories and 'throwing' thos good times and luck into a crowd of single males. In a way its like your marriage is helping others find true love. So just as a veil was originally used to keep the crumbs from your husband breaking first bread over your head to symbolise his dominance from  falling in your hair and face, the garter is just another manipulated tradition to suit modern society. Wow the old days weddings were full on. your husband breaking bread over your head, making love in front of your guests and then having your clothes torn to pieces by all the single unmarried guests... AGH!

So really the garter is really not so bad after reading the history and what its purpose is. And the end of the day its really up to you. There are so many beautiful garters out their to suit your dress, wedding theme and lingerie, that you dont have to look far for something truely elegant and unique without being tacky. At the end of the day a garter makes a great addition to your wedding day (or any day for that matter) lingerie, great to spice up your wedding night... you know what i mean :)
